designer biography
Jacopo GARDELLA

Jacopo Gardella's working relationship is linked to a professional context of two generations of architects, engineers and designers, but with the common goal of combining innovation and tradition in a research process that concerned not only the functionality of the work but also the meanings and values. Son of Ignazio Gardella, Jacopo was born in Milan on April 27, 1935. Graduated in architecture at the Milan Polytechnic in 1960, he began his professional practice in his father's studio, with whom he collaborated on many projects. Jacopo was a passionate professional of the urban area, constantly moved by ethical and social principles and he was responsible for the reconstruction of the Pac (Contemporary Art Pavilion) in Milan, the Lambrate station, the expansion of Bocconi, the Esselunga supermarkets, the built for the technical offices of Alfa Romeo d'Arese and ... Alongside his activity as a designer, there are various collaborations including that with the Busnelli Industrial Group, to which we owe the executive office program Vertice and the Diagono series , table, chairs and coffee table, with a particular design in which its rationalist architectural extraction is evident. Jacopo at the same time participated in various educational and cultural initiatives with the aim of enhancing and protecting the Italian artistic and architectural heritage. He devoted himself to teaching and was a lecturer for various Faculties of Architecture, Milan, Pescara, Turin, Venice, Camerino. Jacopo passed away on February 25, 2021. /
